Day visits
Monasteries are spiritual retreats that offer people an experience of what is most important in life. On the other hand, you can come to a monastery just to admire the church or the beauty of the place and enjoy a little refreshment. Honey produced in the monastery’s own yard is sold in the monastery courtyard, sometimes also baked goods, and there is a small shop in the monastery where you can buy church items or herbs, soaps, olive oil or sweets imported from Greece.
The monastery is mainly open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm and on Sundays from 2 pm to 6 pm. Exceptions are announced on the monastery’s Facebook page, which is worth checking before a possible visit. If you do not see any nuns in the courtyard, ring the doorbell of the main building and someone will come to welcome you. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the monastery is closed to day visitors so that the sisters can better focus on silence and prayer.
Overnight stays
Unfortunately, the monastery currently does not have much space to accommodate guests, except for volunteers, but Tõnise Talu Puhkemajad (Tõnise talu puhkemajad | Puhka Eestis) is located nearby.
Volunteer work
The monastery also needs volunteer work, for example in the garden, construction, cleaning and cooking. You can come and help with the work for a day or even longer. Volunteers live according to the rhythm of the monastery and participate in church services and communal meals. Accommodation is also available for volunteers, depending on the situation. If you are interested in volunteer work, please contact Sister Porfyria (nunn.porfyria@mail.ee).
